Learn to Scythe with us 4 July 9.45am - 3pm
We are so pleased to announce that we will be running another scything course after the success of the last one.
Mike Ingram, who will be giving his time voluntarily, will again be the course leader. Mike has a lifetime of experience in countryside management, practical conservation and ecology and has been scything and teaching scything for over 30 years.
It will be a one day course, covering the optimal way to set up a scythe, how to keep it sharp and how to mow with an efficient movement. There will be also be some discussion about using scythes in the management of meadows but this is mostly a hands-on, practical day. And, for those in the know, the course will be using Austrian scythes.
Please wear appropriate clothing, including boots, and bring your own lunch, drinks and refreshments. Just a reminder too that there are no toilet facilities in the Heavens Valley.
There will be just eight places and we have kept the price down to £25 (most scything courses are between £100-£120) so we would ask you to make an additional donation if you possibly can.
The timetable of the day will be:
Meet 9.45am in the Central Valley below the waterfall
Introductions
Safety/Risk Asessment run through
Setting up the scythe
Sharpening the scythe
Practical task of cutting
Any questions
Finish 3pm
We would like this event to be open for all so if you’d like to take part but the entrance fee would be unaffordable right now, please contact info@heavensvalley.org.uk
